BTS: Be A #NoYellowChick Video
It all started in a boardroom meeting with our marketing team and a cheeky answer to the question: “What’s cute and yellow?”
Why a chick, of course!
Then came the idea of a pun on comparing a cute baby chick to a no yellow blonde chick. And thus, the be a #noyellowchick campaign was born.
The first step was the search for the perfect #noyellowchick. We scoured the Star Now website and stumbled across Bethany’s profile and we knew instantly that she would be the face of our #noyellowchick campaign. There was just that special something about her that gave us that “A-ha! She’s the one” vibe.
Communication with Bethany began, and it was all smooth sailing from there. She agreed to be our girl and we made the simple yet difficult request for her to not touch her hair for 6 weeks before the shoot. This meant no salon visits and no washing with any purple shampoo for this period of time.
In the meantime, we sussed out some locations with great bathrooms where we could do the shoot. We needed a minimalistic bathroom that had the right aesthetics and adequate space for the concept we had in mind. After scouring a few luxury hotels and apartments, we ended up settling with a really cute Airbnb that had exactly what we wanted.
Soon dates were set, the venue was booked, costumes purchased, videographer locked in, makeup and hairstylists were arranged, and it was full steam ahead!
The date flew by so quickly and Bethany’s hair was the perfect tinge of yellow. When we finally met Bethany, she made an immediate impression and we clicked with her straight away. We just knew we had made the right choice for our #noyellowchick.
When we arrived at the venue, it was a quick set up before prepping Bethany for the first mirror scene. We didn’t do anything with her hair but just applied some light makeup with the natural ‘no-makeup’ makeup look. Bethany is a natural stunner anyway, so she looked absolutely flawless.
The second scene involved the tricky shower. How to get good angles in tight spaces, right? Bethany handled it super well as she did have to spend a fair bit of time in there. But how’s this for impressive? The outcome achieved by the No Yellow Vegan Shampoo and Mask were the result of one wash!
First, we washed Bethany’s hair with a normal Fanola shampoo to remove excess oils and buildup of any product she may have had. Then we applied the No Yellow Vegan Shampoo thoroughly on her hair and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Once 20 minutes was up, we rinsed it out and applied the Fanola No Yellow Vegan Mask and left it on for an additional 20 minutes.
After the final rinse off, we commenced to style Bethany’s hair and do her ‘going out’ makeup look for that hair flick scene. What you see in the video is the final toning result of one wash! How brilliant is that? It created such a wonderful ashy blonde and we were stoked at how it turned out.
It was a wrap after 12 long hours of production. Bethany did an amazing job and we couldn’t be happier.
Then came the editing and addition of the little chick in the introduction. We didn’t film the chick of course, although we’d love to claim we did (then we’d have a cute little office chick). The chick was a stock video we purchased and came the challenge of combining that shot with the rest of the commercial in a way that was cohesive and got the message across.
After multiple edits, revisions and addition of some special effects, we had a final video that we can be truly proud of! Luckily, we have a pretty cool in-house videographer who brought the vision to life. Great job, Johnny!
We hope you enjoyed our #noyellowchick video and you love the No Yellow Vegan as much as we do! Please share your thoughts in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you!
